Charles Burkam, J.D.
Charles Burkam, A.B. (Econ), J.D., has been involved with Waldorf education for nearly 40 years. He is currently the Executive Director of the Desert Marigold School in Phoenix, Arizona, and active within the Arizona Council of Waldorf Education (ACWE). Charles was a member of the Alliance Board from October 2015 through November 2017. He served as Treasurer and had been a member of the Executive, Membership and Joint Venture Committees until stepping off the Board to take on the finalization and coordination of the Path of Membership process.
Having met Waldorf Education through Pine Hill and High Mowing Schools in New Hampshire in 1978, he later left his legal practice, moved to England and studied at Emerson College. Subsequently, he served as Bursar at Michael Hall Steiner School, was the initial Administrative Advisor for the UK Steiner Schools Fellowship, then Director of Finance and Development at Emerson College. After his return to the US, he was a consultant and interim Administrator at Santa Fe Waldorf School from 2004 to 2005, before joining DMS in 2010.
